Night in the Desert
Jul 01, 2019
July brings a myriad of activities and events for our guests to enjoy, but there is one of these remains a favorite with almost everyone. Every year from mid-June until the end of August, the Desert Botanical Garden of Phoenix hosts their ever-popular Flashlight Tours. Ongoing every Saturday evening through August 31, these self-guided, hands-on journeys are the ideal way to experience the wild beauty of the desert at night. The temperature cools from summer heat to evening desert chill as the sun sets and the moon rises, and the desert comes to life.
If you watch carefully, you’ll see a variety of desert denizens, some of which only venture out after dark, such as great horned owls, bobcats, foxes, coyotes, bats, and tarantulas. Also, be sure to check out the night-blooming plants you’ll see along the way, including “The Queen,” a night-blooming cereus, datura and more. No matter your age or experience, a Flashlight Tour through the Desert Botanical Garden is a wonderful way to spend a summer night.Share
